AhlulBayt News Agency: Nearly 20 journalists' associations in France, including those affiliated with France 24, Le Monde, and Radio France Internationale, have called for the evacuation of French journalists and media workers from Gaza amid Israel’s ongoing military campaign.
In a letter published on Saturday, the associations urged French authorities to take all necessary measures to evacuate Gazan journalists, fixers, and drivers working for French media outlets, along with their families. The letter was posted on social media and the France 24 website.
The appeal was signed by several associations linked to major French media outlets, including BFM TV, Le Figaro, Libération, and Mediapart. The letter warned that journalists and their families were in grave danger following Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s announcement of plans to take full control of Gaza.
Since the outbreak of the war on October 7, 2023, more than 200 journalists in Gaza have been killed, according to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate (PJS) reported that five Palestinian journalists, including two women, were killed in airstrikes on May 18.
The journalists were killed alongside their families in attacks targeting displacement tents and homes in Khan Younis, Deir al-Balah, and Gaza City. The PJS stated that the total number of media workers killed since early October 2023 now exceeds 220, describing it as a systematic targeting of Palestinian journalism.
The war has resulted in the deaths of at least 53,901 Palestinians, mostly women and children, with another 122,593 injured. The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Minister of Military Affairs Yoav Gallant, citing war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions in Gaza.
